From Struggles to Champions? Sod Poodles Punch Playoff Ticket
It's definitely been a bit of an up-and-down ride for our beloved Amarillo Sod Poodles this season. They started off the season in a rut, full of errors being committed and the bats being relatively silent.
They ended the first half of the season with a 30-37 record, and everyone was wondering if it was just going to be "one of those seasons" where they just couldn't get all cylinders firing at the same time.
Second Half Champions
Well, it's all now a distant memory for the Soddies. They have propelled themselves to a 39-28 record thus far in the second half of the season, and last night, they shut out the Midland Rockhounds, who won the first half of the season.
Why was the 4-0 win significant? Well, it clinched the second half for the Sod Poodles, and now they're headed back to the playoffs for the third time in their AA history.
Sod Poodles Can't Be Beaten In The Playoffs
Getting into the playoffs is all this team seems to need. In 2019, they made the playoffs in their inaugural season and ended up winning the Texas League championship.
Fast forward to just a couple of years ago, 2023, when they faced the Arkansas Travelers and dispatched them in just three games to win their Texas League championship. Two playoff trips, two championships — now a chance at three.
When Do The Playoffs Start
The Soddies will face Midland four more times to wrap up the regular season, then go right back up against them as the playoffs kick off on September 16th right here in Amarillo.
Tickets for the game are available by going here.
