Playoff Shakeup Leaves West Plains as Area’s Final Hope
When it all began, we had five Amarillo & Canyon area teams that were vying for the title. After week one, it was down to four. When week two concluded, we were left with just the three CISD schools standing.
One of the matchups in week three guaranteed that at least one of those three would move on, and sadly also guaranteed that the run would come to an end for another.
Regional Round Results
The game that didn't guarantee one team moving on and one team seeing their season come to an end ended up with a result we weren't looking for, as when it was all said and done, it guaranteed that only one area team would make it to the quarterfinals.
Randall had to battle a VERY tough team from Stephenville, and the Raiders fell to the Yellow Jackets/Honeybees by a score of 51-6. It's not a reflection of how Randall played; that game was simply a view of just how good Stephenville is.
The other matchup was an area gem. West Plains taking on Canyon for the right to move on to the quarterfinals. In the end, Canyon proved no match for the Wolves of West Plains as they fell 35-3.
What Does This Mean For West Plains
Well, it means they're the last ones standing from the Amarillo/Canyon area, and thus the only hope for us to see that state title make its way to the area. However, the Wolves will face their toughest challenge of the playoffs yet.
West Plains will get to face that very Stephenville team that dismantled Randall. We now get to find out if the Wolves can continue their run and knock off the 17th-ranked team in Texas. They'll take to the gridiron in Lubbock at Lowrey Field on Friday, December 5th at 7 pm.
