Texas Issues New Warning Over Mystery Seeds From China
Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has warned the public yet again about unidentified mystery seeds arriving in the state from China. In fact, since February 2025, the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) has collected 1,101 packs of these unidentified seeds at 109 locations across the state.
The last package to be reported to the TDA was December 29, 2025.
Random Chinese Deliveries Spark Caution Among Texans
Last year, a resident in Clute, Texas, reportedly received a package that was sent from China. In it were multiple mysterious seeds and some unknown liquid.
Once the TDA was notified of what happened, they urged residents to practice extreme caution when handling mysterious Chinese packages.
The reason why these seeds are taken so seriously is because they represent a threat to our nation's biosecurity. They are unidentified which means they have the potential for containing dangerous or deadly toxins to humans and/or cattle.
Commissioner Miller added that, although the seeds are small, they pose a significant threat to the Texas agriculture business:
The possible introduction of an invasive species to the state via these seeds poses real risks to Texas families and the agriculture industry.
What Do I Do if I Receive Said Deliveries?
If you or someone you know has received one of these mystery packages from China containing strange seeds, you should refrain from opening the bag containing the seeds and instead call the TDA immediately at 1-800-TELL-TDA.
Once notified, they will walk you through what must be done for safe handling and collection.
