High-Speed Lubbock Police Pursuit Ends In Major Federal Sentence
A New Mexico man was recently sentenced to nearly two decades in federal prison after leading Lubbock police on a high-speed, multi-county chase. In addition to a loaded pistol, the man was travelling with hundreds of grams of meth and suspected fentanyl.
Lubbock High-Speed Chase
Court documents revealed that, on October 9, 2025, a Lubbock Police Department patrol unit attempted to stop a vehicle driven by 32-year-old Erik Louis Almaguer after he committed a traffic violation.
Instead of complying with the traffic stop, Almaguer accelerated his vehicle, initiating a police pursuit with LPD. The high-speed chase lasted long enough for Almaguer to leave Lubbock city limits, continue to head south, and enter Brownfield. His speed was recorded surpassing 100 miles per hour several times.
Finally, once Alaguer arrived in Brownfield, officers were able to deploy spike strips and pop two of his vehicle's tires. This didn't stop him, however, and he continued to evade until patrol units fully disabled his vehicle, forcing him to flee on foot before being captured.
Inside Almaguer's vehicle was a loaded Glock 17 pistol with an extended magazine, over 300 grams (0.7 pounds) of methamphetamine, more than 12 grams of alleged fentanyl powder, and what police suspect was a small baggie of fentanyl pills hidden in his sock.
Almaguer's Guilty Plea
Almaguer was indicted back in February, and in May of this year, he pleaded guilty to possessing over 300 grams of meth with intent to distribute, and possessing a loaded Glock pistol related to his drug trafficking.
Almaguer was sentenced to 170 months for the drug offense with an additional 60-month sentence to be served right after due to the firearm offense. This brought Almaguer's total federal prison sentence to 230 months, or 19 years and two months.
