Wichita Falls will be getting a new sports team in 2026 and you can try out to make the squad next month.

Turns out the old American Basketball Association (ABA) made a comeback in 1999. The ABA actually merged with the NBA that we know today. If you root for the New Jersey Nets, San Antonio Spurs, Indiana Pacers, or Denver Nuggets those are actually all old ABA teams. Looks like Wichita Falls will be getting an ABA team in 2026.

Wichita Falls Netburners Coming in 2026

This announcement was made over the summer, but not a lot of information is known about this new team coming to town. For instance, where will they play? The old Wichita Falls Texans basketball team played at D.L. Ligon Coliseum at Midwestern State University from 1988-1994. The Texans actually won the CBA championship in 1991.

Wichita Falls Netburners Holding Open Tryouts for Team

If you think you have what it takes to make a professional basketball team, they will be holding tryouts in less than a month over in Grand Prairie. Just a heads up, I learned the ABA has some different rules compared to your standard basketball game to make it a little more interesting.

Certain Shots Can Earn You More Points

Half court shots are worth four points in the ABA. Also, if you commit a turnover or violation in the back court something called the 3-D light is turned on. When that is on, you're awarded an additional point for any basket scored. It sounds interesting.

We will have to wait and see once more is announced from the team. You can check out their website or Facebook page for more.
