Remember When Wichita Falls No Sold Tito Ortiz on National TV?
It has become an anniversary that wrestling fans love to mock and Wichita Falls is at the center of it.
August 1, 2013 TNA Impact! Live in Wichita Falls
It was a big weekend for wrestling with WWE having their annual Summerslam, but wrestling fans were also celebrating the anniversary of 'August 1 Warning'. In case you don't remember. TNA was building up to this 'big' event on August 1st. Someone was going to show up to wrestle and it's going to be HUGE. Shocking that it was actually going to happen right here in Wichita Falls at Kay Yeager Coliseum. The moment came at the very end of the night and the crowd goes mild to say the least.
August 1 Warning Reveal in Wichita Falls on Impact
This was it. The Main Event Mafia and Aces & Eights are beefing ringside. Then the music hits, lights go out, the announcers say 'August 1 Warning revealed as the MMA legend Tito Ortiz'. Dead silence in the venue. No one cared or honestly most likely had no idea who Tito Ortiz was. The moment has been called one of the worst reveals in wrestling history and was really only used as a buildup to a Bellator fight between Tito Ortiz and Rampage Jackson (who also was in TNA). That fight never happened due to Tito Ortiz getting injured.
TNA Even Looped the Reaction for the Anniversary for an Hour This Week
TNA know laughs at this moment like the rest of us. On the anniversary this year, they re-uploaded 'August 1 Warning IDENTITY REVEALED' video. It's literally an hour long loop of the wrestlers in the ring awkwardly reacting to Tito Ortiz walking down the ramp.
