Crown Colony Wins Court Appeal

Chalk up another win for the turtles and a loss for Big Gas. RaceTrac has been delayed once again in building its travel center at the corner of College Drive and U.S. Highway 59 in Lufkin.

According to the Lufkin Daily News, the Tyler-based 12th Court of Appeals upheld the July 2024 injunction halting construction.

"It is the opinion of the court that there was no error in the temporary injunction order." 

Chief Justice James Worthen presented an 11-page opinion that overruled four issues. All of which confirmed that the Crown Colony Improvement Association, Inc.'s motion for the temporary injunction had merit, and they ordered RaceTrac to pay the appeal's costs.

Lufkin Should Fight As One Against Corporate Overreach

Strangely, when I read the comments on other posts on social media, I see that many in the Lufkin area hope that the "rich" people in Crown Colony don't get what they want. They don't care if the gas station gets built, and they will troll and make up silly opinions online.

I wish Lufkin could stand as one against a corporation instead of being so divisive. There aren't any multi-billionaires in Crown Colony that I know of.

No one in Lufkin is the enemy, and having more or less than someone else doesn't have that much to do with where you live. This subdivision has been around for decades, and the homes are aging. You might be amazed at what you could afford to buy or rent inside the secure HOA-controlled space.

Now that this opinion has been released, there will be a civil trial. This will be the last step for the Crown Colony Improvement Association to stop construction of the travel center for good.
