Next year is shaping up to be an interesting one in Texas when it comes to legislation. The next legislative session in Texas, when new laws will be debated and voted on, isn't until 2025 but there is already plenty to talk about. There have been bills filed that will tackle issues like minimum wage in the Lone Star State, and even legalizing marijuana for use by anyone who is over the age of 21. In the Texas Senate, they're taking a different approach to the marijuana issue.

Banning THC Products In Texas In 2025

The Texas Senate is going to be tackling the debate on whether or not all THC products should be banned in the Lone Star State. Senate Bill 3 will supposedly be "carried" by Senator Charles Perry of Lubbock and seems to be of high importance to Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick.

According to reports, Dan Patrick is throwing his support behind the bill and has signaled that this will be a big priority heading into the 2025 legislative session that starts in January. It seems that some believe the answer to the issues created by the agriculture bill addressing hemp in 2023 is a sweeping banning of all THC products.

What Products Will Be Banned By Senate Bill 3?

When it's stated that Senate Bill 3 will ban all products containing THC, that's exactly what is meant. There is no mention of any wiggle room and no mention of some kind of regulation. It's an all-encompassing ban that will affect a lot of stores in the Lone Star State.

There are stores all over Texas that sell all kinds of products ranging from gummies to lotions. These products all contain small amounts of certain types of THC. It's interesting to me that this bill seeks to create a blanket ban on all of them. There are a lot of small businesses that will either go under or be incredibly hurt by a ban like this.

Considering that there are numerous bills in the House, and even two in the Senate, that seek to expand access to cannabis, it will be interesting to see how this debate shakes out. With the Lt. Gov. already announcing his support for a blanket ban, it doesn't look good for legalization in Texas in 2025.
