According to KVUE, a Texas lawmaker is addressing the Furries "problem" at schools.

And yes, I looked at the URL multiple times to ensure I wasn't reading a parody website. And hunted until I found the actual bill. HB 4814.

The proposed bill would forbid students from acting like non-human animals in schools, including wearing ears/ tails (the bill actually says "surgical" or otherwise), using leashes or collars, making animal noises, and using a litter box to urinate/ defecate.

Also it won't allow students to lick themselves or others to clean themselves. Ok.

This bill is courtesy of Republican State Rep. Stan Gerdes and is called Forbidding Unlawful Representation of Roleplaying in Education (FURRIES).

Can we agree that clearly this is dumb posturing and a waste of the paper it was printed out on? Schools already disallow disruptive behavior/dress, and they certainly already do not allow children to use the restroom in a box and/or lick each other.

I am by no means defending Furries. I used to attend and even work a lot of fan conventions and furries make me intensely uncomfortable. I can't look at them or be near them without feeling mildly panicked. I guess its an uncanny valley thing.

Even with my own discomfort, I think this law is ridiculous, and just an opportunity for this lawmaker to make a mountain out of a molehill- to create fear of a very niche subculture. Again, one that I do not care for at all.

Do Representatives really have this much extra time? Should they be given other tasks to help keep them busy? Perhaps they could scoop the litter box.
