Iggy Pop Reveals Details About His Collaboration With Josh Homme, Shares the Single ‘Gardenia’
On Thursday, Iggy Pop and Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age and Eagles of Death Metal revealed that they secretly recorded an album together called Post Pop Depression and, after performing "Gardenia" on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, more details have emerged.
The album – which will be released March 18 via Loma Vista/Concord – is billed solely under Iggy Pop's name, produced by Homme. But the nine-song album also includes contributions from Dean Fertita of Queens of the Stone Age and the Dead Weather and drummer Matt Helders of Arctic Monkeys. Pop and Homme also plan on touring behind the album, accompanied by both Fertita and Helders along with guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen of QOTSA and bassist Matt Sweeney of Chavez.

Iggy said in a press release, "I wanted to be free. To be free, I needed to forget. To forget, I needed music. Josh had that in him, so I set out to provoke an encounter-first with a carefully worded text, followed by a deluge of writings all about me. No composer wants to write about nothing. He got revved up and we had a great big rumble in the desert USA.”
In an interview with The New York Times, Homme said he and Pop financed the album on their own to ensure the “utmost secrecy and full independence" and said it was partially inspired by Iggy's 1977 collaborations with David Bowie, The Idiot and Lust for Life.
Homme also went on to explain that it was “by a stroke of fate” that he didn’t join Eagles of Death Metal at the Bataclan the night of the Paris attacks and credits this album with helping him overcome the trauma. “The fact that I had this to work on, it saved me,” he said.
