The Midland Police Department has just received $21,000 grant from the Texas Department of Transportation for a selective traffic enforcement program. As reported on newswest9.com, the program will help the Midland police better patrol certain areas that the city feels need extra attention. The officers will need to be paid overtime for patrolling these areas on their off time so the grant will help to pay for that. The areas of focus will be the northwest area of Loop 250 and near Interstate Highway 20 and Ranking Highway. Ok, so what does that mean to you right? Well, basically it means if you’re not watching your P’s and Q’s in the areas circled on the map you’re gonna get a ticket! The fact that the city had to ask for a grant so that our police department could spend extra time focusing on making sure people are observing and obeying certain traffic laws is just pathetic guys. The officers will be focusing on speeding and distracted driving…. And you know why? I’m guessing it has something to do with the over 100 road related fatalities this area has had already this year. I’m not saying I’m not guilty of it myself, I’m just saying it’s time for us all to stop and pay attention to what really matters, keeping yourself and everyone else out there on the road with you alive.
Drive safe!
