It's Christmas Eve and Green Day would like to spread some holiday cheer with a brand new festive jam, "Xmas Time of the Year." The song is an original rather than a simple cover of an age-old Christmas song we've heard time and time again. No word yet if Green Day will be releasing a new album in 2016, but a new song is more than enough to cheer about!

The song is an overall reflection on traditional Christmas themes, opening with the lines "Seasons greeting cards and Christmas lights light up the city at the end of the year." The mid-tempo rhythm sounds like a concentrated effort not to hit the gas too hard and burst into full on punk rock mode. The even-paced song allows the lyrics to truly sink in, giving the full effect of what the holiday brings to mind.

Along with the new song, Green Day members Billie Joe Armstrong and bassist Mike Dirnt announced the opening of their own coffee business, Oakland Coffee Works. In the hyper-competitive world of the planet's most traded commodity, second only to crude oil, it is hard to gain an edge over the industry's leaders. The duo found theirs, however, and will be utilizing compostable bags and pods to house their products. In an interview with Financial Time posted on Green Day's website, Dirnt stated, “I’ve been drinking coffee all these years, I looked at the coffee bags and realized they’re all landfill. It was astonishing to me. I hope that the big companies out there step up to the plate too.”

Earlier in the year, Green Day released a film detailing the recording process for their American Idiot album. Heart Like a Hand Grenade delved into the nitty gritty of the album's nine month session, taking an individual look at how each song on the album came to be.
