I wrote a few weeks ago, warning about the impending flu season and the likelihood of it getting here sooner, being worse and lasting longer. As I have told most of the men in my life, I was right again, as I always am. Health officials are urging the public to get your flu vaccinations now as soon as possible. There are already several flu cases reported in SE Texas and it doesn't seem to be slowing down. If you've ever had either of the three types of flu and I have, you know how much it blows and guessing if you had the choice to not have it, you'd take it.
In case you didn't know there are three types of the flu viruses: A, B and C. Type A and B cause the annual influenza epidemics that effect up to 20% of the population. Type C also causes the flu the symptoms are just much less severe. Type C is very commonly seen with the level of severity between A and B varying but decidedly worse that I have had Type A, which I have read and have been told is the worse type, capable of causing complications that can lead to death, and let me assure you, it's awful. It's far worse for children and older adults and the chance of complications much higher.
Symptoms of the flu include:

Cough
Sore Throat
Runny or Stuffy Nose
Muscle or body Aches
Headaches
Severe Fatigue
Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children.
Get your flu vaccinations now. If you work somewhere that offers flu vaccinations yearly and you haven't already received any information as to when they will be offered don't be afraid to step up and ask and then get them as soon as possible.
You can call the Midland Health department for more information on the flu virus and vaccinations.
