Dark Horse To Launch Three Issue Miniseries Based On Slayer Videos [SDCC 2016]
Thrash metal legends Slayer have always been a band with a strong sense of narrative and storytelling, and their music is as evocative as any movie, TV show or graphic novel. Later this year, the band is making the official crossover into the realm of comis with a brand-new three issue miniseries from Dark Horse influenced by their most recent album.
Announced via Rolling Stone, Slayer: Repentless continues the story that the band has been telling through the music videos for their most recent album of the same name. Written by Jon Schnepp of Metalocalypse, with art by Conan The Avenger’s Guiu Vilanova, the new miniseries continues the Slayer legend,, and is influenced by the story constructed by director BJ McDonnell.
While talking with Rolling Stone about his approach to collaboration across mediums, Slayer’s Kerry King noted that the band takes a significantly hands off approach; "My philosophy as far as anybody working on anything regarding Slayer, be it the album cover art or video concepts, is to let the people who do that for a living do it."
To promote the upcoming release, Slayer will appear at San Diego Comic Con this week for signings at both the Dark Horse booth and the booth of their label, Nuclear Blast America. The band will also be performing in front of a sold out crowd at San Diego’s House of Blues on Thursday, July 21st.
Slayer: Repentless #1 will be available digitally and in comic book stores in December.
