Niagara Falls
You may be thinking this sounds more like something you’ve always wanted to do but just couldn’t afford but you’d be surprised at how affordable this trip can be. I’ve read the best way get access to a bunch of the attractions at a reduced rate is the Niagara USA Discovery Pass. The Power Vista is good for the kiddos, it has a 4-D movie and STEM-related activities. Hit up the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Niagara Falls, they have pretty good rates year round.

Rome
I know, I know…you saw this one and thought “She said cheap, right?”, yes, it’s not going to be as expensive as you’re imagining. Flights from the U.S. to Rome this summer are starting from $400 or less round-trip….Rome has a ton of kid-friendly hotels like this one I read about called the Ibis Styles Roma Art Noba, and the rates start at only $75 per night. The room comes with in-room Nintendo/PS3, some welcome amenities for the kids, free Wi-Fi and a kids’ menu at the restaurant onsite.

Winter Park, Co
The name itself may give off the wrong impression as far as summer destinations go but I promise it’s a summer suggestion. It’s got hiking, biking, horseback riding, rafting, zip lining and Colorado’s longest alpine slide…plus the rates start at only $89 per night. Check out Zephyr Mountain Lodge, I think there’s a pic of the slide on their website.

Myrtle Beach, SC
This is where I’m pretty sure we’re going this year for summer vacation. I’ve been to South Carolina before and it was absolutely beautiful and the beach I went to was awesome but it wasn’t the beach that fully sold me on the trip it was the boardwalk. There are some pretty cool hotels that have water parks and stuff for the kids that are worth checking out, like Sea Mist Oceanfront Resort, guests get free unlimited access to their water park and a discounted pass to Family Kingdom Amusement Park and Splashes Oceanfront Water Park. In the summer the place offers a fifth night free, a free Friday with each seven-day stay, a $90 EZ-cash card for those who book their trips 90 days in advance, and 15-percent off stays in select rooms from June to August.

Space Coast, FL
I’ve always wanted to visit Florida but in my head all I see is weird mug shots of insane criminals and nothing but swamps and alligators and snakes. In actuality Florida has some amazingly beautiful beaches and happens to be super budget friendly because of all the deals on attractions. Swim, surf, fish, visit the Cocoa Beach Pier for a look at the parks 140,000 acres full of plants and animals like birds, manatees and you guessed it….ALLIGATORS!!!! I knew there were alligators!

Lisbon, Portugal
If you’ve always wanted to take your children to travel the world Portugal is a good place to start. Lisbon has a variety of kid friendly resorts that have their own beach, not to mention the pools in these joints are crazy! Portugal is a very politically stable country and boasts having little to no crime. Lisbon has a zoo, an oceanarium, trollies, a marine park, some water parks, hiking, and all kinds of sites
