‘Breaking Bad’ House Adds Iron Fence to Keep Out Overzealous Fans
There’s ample evidence of toxic fandom out there, and the Albuquerque homeowners of Breaking Bad have seen some of the worst of it. After one-too-many tourist invaders and pizzas to the roof, the owners have apparently erected a security fence to dissuade entitled fans.
You’ve likely heard one story or another around the Quintana family home, which doubled for the White residence in Breaking Bad, and has since become such a haven for unwanted attention that Bryan Cranston and show creators have attempted to dissuade fans from visiting. Now, according to KOB 4 Eyewitness News in New Mexico, the Quintanas have resorted to a six-foot iron fence, of which Joanne Quintana stated:
We don’t want to gate ourselves in. We’re the ones who’s being locked up. We did nothing wrong.
In addition to fans recreating the famous “pizza on the roof” scene, Quintana described belligerent visitors (sometimes in the tens to hundreds) asking the family to get out of sight for photos, or stealing rocks from the landscaping as souvenirs. Other New Mexico locations like the duplex doubling for Jesse Pinkman’s apartment have similarly dealt with eager fans, and pondered architectural modifications of their own.
Plenty of famous TV locations have similarly dealt with tourist onlookers, though Breaking Bad has continually served as an example of the more overzealous fandom. Hopefully the fence will help, but the fact that it came to that should stand as a lesson.
