Bailey County Judge Sherri Harrison has been arrested and charged with official oppression, criminal trespassing and purchasing alcohol for a minor.

KAMC News reports that Harrison was arrested on Wednesday, August 31st. The charges stemmed from May of 2022.

The Muleshoe Journal reported that a petition and suit were filed to remove Harrison from office before her term ended. Basil Nash officially unseated Harrison back in March and is set to take her place in January 2023.

The suit called for Harrison's removal on grounds that she "consistently shows incompetence, official misconduct and habitual drunkenness." It detailed multiple instances where Harrison was suspected of being intoxicated while being called on to perform her magistrate duties. In one instance in which Harrison was called to sign a search warrant, an officer observed her "to appear disheveled, was swaying, had slurred speech and was speaking erratically."

This suit was filed by Bailey County Attorney Michaela E. Kee in June 2022.

Harrison has been serving Bailey County since 1998, first taking office as Bailey County Clerk, then being appointed to serve an unexpired term as county judge in 2005. She kept the seat through multiple elections until 2022.
