Anthrax and Killswitch Engage are two of the many artists featured on the upcoming free mixtape to promote the HBO series Game Of Thrones. The collection of songs marks the second music release from the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning TV series and is titled Catch the Throne: The Mixtape Volume II. The set will be available free of charge next month.

Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian recently told Finland's Kaaos TV (Via Blabbermouth) about the song they contributed to the mixtape. “We didn't have time to start writing something brand new from scratch. We listened to all the material we had and made the decision. Everybody listened to the demos and we all had the same idea that this one demo just sounded like that should be the song for Game Of Thrones, so it was a pretty easy decision.” He added, “The lyrics weren't written yet, though -- we only had the music -- so then [the show producers] said you have to pick something about the show to write about. And I got to write about exactly what I wanted to write about [the Lannister family], so I was very happy about that.”

Ian also shared that he, Charlie Benante and Frank Bello are “really big fans” of the show. “So it was just something really exciting that we got the call to do that. And we were, like, 'Yeah!'” The members of Anthrax also had a chance to visit the set of Game Of Thrones. Check out the photos here.

Killswitch Engage frontman Jesse Leach spoke to Australian rock station Triple M (Via Blabbermouth) and said he hadn’t seen the show before the group was asked to lend a song to the mixtape. He said, "When we got asked to do it, I started doing my research and watching some of the stuff. And while I was writing the song, I didn't really know what I was talking about. But [the show producers] give you a concept, they give you key words that you should use and sort of give you a storyline.”

Leach continued, “It was fun for me to work in that capacity, 'cause I'm used to just coming up with stuff on my own off the spot. And they had a lot of cool trigger words, so it was interesting to see that come together." The vocalist says he powered through watching all four seasons in about a week.

HBO’s first installment of Catch The Throne: The Mixtape was a huge success with over 2.5 million streams to date. Volume II will arrive next month free of charge in anticipation of the Season 5 premiere of Game Of Thrones, airing April 12 on HBO.  The mixtape also features tracks from Snoop Dogg and Method Man.

Fans are encouraged to listen and share the mixtape on social media using the hashtag #CatchTheThrone. No word on song titles, track list or official release date for the effort yet, but we will keep you posted.
