One thing I've noticed since the booms really began making the Permian Basin grow to sometimes comfortable capacity, is in the service industry, a lot of jobs are really being done half assed.  People are out here making money in the oilfield hand over fist which means that most of the people who really want to work and make money are taken. Not all, but it definitely seems like most of the good employees in anything but the oilfield are gone. I can't tell you how many times I've walked up to the counter at a business with 3 employees in front of me and they'll be talking among themselves and not one of them even acknowledge I'm there for a very awkward amount of time. They even go out of their way to make eye contact and pretend they don't see you, as if they aren't literally 10 feet away. When you try to speak up and get their attention, they talk over you as if they don't hear you even though inevitably one of them will accidentally look over at you then instantly dart their eyes away hoping you didn't see them look at you.

This is an all too familiar scene in far too many places in this area. I've turned in complaints, I've spoken up in person, I've contacted corporate on a few occasions when it's gotten to the point of being flat out disrespectful. Something has got to give. I don't think I'm being unreasonable. Forget friendly customer service, I'd settle for civil customer service. Please tell me I'm not crazy.
