Upon a Burning Body Unveil New Songs; Mocked Over Missing Person Hoax

Upon a Burning Body are having a memorable week, for multiple reasons. The band has just unveiled a pair of new songs and will kick off their Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival dates on Saturday (July 5), but they’re also getting some negative attention after a missing person hoax grabbed headlines yesterday.

Frontman Danny Leal had posted a message that he had noticed a sketchy car continually circling his house, followed by another message that he thought someone was in his house. Then yesterday, the band posted on their Facebook page that Leal had gone missing. But by the end of the day on Wednesday (July 2), Sumerian Records chief Ash Avildsen chimed in to reveal that it was all a hoax.

Unhappy with the group, Avildsen stated, “I do not condone this type of publicity stunt. This was done behind my back and I am not OK with it. In my eyes, there’s never a time to use the possibility of a real-life abduction, injury or murder of someone you care about to promote anything, especially an album. If you need to resort to that, then you have lost the plot … There are some people who owe us an apology.”

As expected, Upon a Burning Body’s stunt was met with some derision from some of their peers. Emmure had some fun in a couple of since deleted tweets, with the band offering, “Has anyone seen our singer Frankie Palmeri? Last we heard he was on his way to Mars … or some s—, we’re not sure … f— it.” To which Palmeri later added, “Gonna be a long hard summer of making fun of people who pretend to be kidnapped and rocking out to Korn all night.” The following are some of the other tweets from Unearth‘s Buz McGrath and The Hell mocking the band’s stunt.

Meanwhile, Upon a Burning Body did release a pair of new songs this week. The song ‘Scars’ can be heard above, while ‘Red Razor Wires’ is featured in the player below. Both tracks come from their ‘The World Is My Enemy Now’ disc, due Aug. 12.
