On this day in 1931, mobster Al Capone was convicted of income tax evasion.

He spent the next eleven years in prison. Of course, in 1931, in the midst of the Great Depression, prison wasn’t such a bad place to be, at least Al got three square meals a day and a warm place to sleep.
