With the high cost of concerts these days, rock festivals are quickly becoming not only the best alternative to see all of your favorite bands in one location either over one day or in some cases four days, but they are quickly becoming family destination spots with many generations coming together for one huge event.

The current list of festivals are as follows, the granddaddy, Rock on The Range, which has spawned many more festivals like Carolina Rebellion, Rocklahoma and countless others to the fold with off-shoots of those festivals popping up all over.

Of course, we can't forget the festival that kicked off the festival craze which was Ozzfest which has been resurrected this year in conjunction with Knotfest. The festival that Slipknot has put together to feature many newer up and coming rock and metal bands, of course. There will be those who will say that festivals have been around for decades and that is true but the festivals of the 70s and 80s were very few and far between, whether it was the Summer Jam series that traveled the country or the iconic festivals like Texas Jam. Those festivals were very different and much more diverse in their musical lineups.

Personally I am torn with festivals, I like the intimacy of the small show but if you're looking for the most bang for the buck and of course you haven't had the experience, then by all means, you should go to any of the many festivals around the country this year!  So for future reference here is a list of some of the biggest festivals around the country. Of course, there are many other smaller festivals but these are the true highlights
