The second leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown and NASCAR’s All-Star event highlight the upcoming sports calendar. Here’s what to watch this weekend:

Friday, May 17

NHL Playoffs: Game 2 — Ottawa Senators at Pittsburgh Penguins

Consol Energy Center, Pittsburgh; 7:30 p.m. (ET) on NBC Sports Network
Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Brenden Morrow lead the top-seeded Pittsburgh Penguins against the Ottawa Senators and Daniel Alfredsson. The Penguins lead the best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinal series, 1-0.

Saturday, May 18

NHL Playoffs: Game 2 — Detroit Red Wings at Chicago Blackhawks

United Center, Chicago; 1 p.m. (ET) on NBC
The Chicago Blackhawks host the Detroit Red Wings in Game 2 of their best-of-seven Western Conference semifinal series. Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane are Chicago’s key offensive players, while Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk are the difference-makers for Detroit. Chicago leads the series, 1-0.

138th Preakness Stakes

Pimlico Race Course, Baltimore; 6:20 p.m. (ET) on NBC
The running of the 138th Preakness Stakes, the second leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown, is scheduled for Saturday in Baltimore. Kentucky Derby-winner Orb is the favorite in the nine-horse field. Rick Pitino-owned Goldencents, Mylute and Departing are all potential contenders for the winner’s circle.

NHL Playoffs: Game 3 — Los Angeles Kings at San Jose Sharks

HP Pavilion, San Jose, Calif.; 9 p.m. (ET) on NBC Sports Network
The Los Angeles Kings and goaltender Jonathan Quick battle the San Jose Sharks and forward Patrick Marleau in Game 3. The defending Stanley Cup champion Kings are looking to continue their path to becoming the first team to repeat as champs since the Detroit Red Wings in 1998. L.A. leads the series, 1-0.

Sprint Showdown and NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race

Charlotte Motor Speedway, Concord, N.C.; 7:46 p.m. (ET) on SPEED
NASCAR’s 2013 Sprint Cup season has reached its all-star break. The best drivers will race in Saturday’s Sprint Showdown and NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race. Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Clint Bowyer have had the best seasons thus far, with Johnson holding a 44-point edge on Edwards for the Cup Series lead. No points will be awarded for Saturday’s races.

UFC on FX 8: Vitor Belfort vs. Luke Rockhold

Jaragua do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil; 9 p.m. (ET) on FX
Middleweight contenders Vitor Belfort and Luke Rockhold will clash in Brazil this Saturday night. As the last remaining Strikeforce champ, Luke Rockhold will make his UFC debut against the skilled and strong UFC veteran Belfort. Other matches on the undercard include: Chris Camozzi vs. Ronaldo Souza; Joao Zeferino vs. Rafael Natal and Rafael dos Anjos vs. Evan Dunham.

Sunday, May 19

NHL Playoffs: Game 2 — New York Rangers at Boston Bruins

TD Bank Garden, Boston; 3 p.m. (ET) on NBC
The New York-Boston rivalry finds itself on ice in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Both the Rangers and the Bruins had to endure grueling seven-game series in the first round of the playoffs. Boston’s Milan Lucic and Brad Marchand must find a way to score against Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist. New York’s Rick Nash and Mats Zuccarello will lead the attack against Bruins netminder Tuukka Rask.

Detroit Tigers at Texas Rangers

Rangers Ballpark, Arlington, Texas; 8:05 p.m. (ET) on ESPN
The Detroit Tigers (22-16) and Texas Rangers (26-14) wrap up a four-game series between American League division leaders on Sunday night. Doug Fister (5-1, 3.06) gets the start for the Tigers, while Derek Holland (3-2, 2.93) takes the mound for the Rangers.

NBA playoff matchups have yet to be determined as of this post.
