I know this may come as a shock to most of you, but I happen to be an extremely frugal individual, its ok, I’ll wait till your done laughing.  You good?

As I was saying, frugal, it’s just the smart way to go sometimes.  With the economy being what it is, which isn’t horrible but it isn’t gold covered toilet seat rich either, I figure if you can save some money here and there why not?  However, if you’re doing it right you don’t have to compromise on your own personal style.  What I mean is if you’re the kind of kid that’s into affliction shirts or those jeans with the designs on the back (to each his fruity own…jk…a little)  or a girl that can’t imagine a life without wearing pants that look like a bedazzler threw up on the back pockets, never fear!  I can hook you up.

I have two consistent go-to’s when it comes to frugality and then a few other options I venture toward when I’m feeling frisky.  If you’re willing to do a little searching and filtering, as I will gladly educate you on shortly, and maybe every now and then a little waiting, you can save yourself money that can be put toward something more important, like concert tickets, or bills whatever.

Amazon.com (with a prime membership) and Ebay.com are my consistent go-to’s when I want something whether its clothing or a Bluetooth speaker.  At both sites you can find pretty much anything under the sun, if its purchasable chances are you will find it there and in most cases for way less than what you’ll pay in a store.

The key to Amazon.com is to go ahead and pay for the prime membership, when I first signed up over three years ago it was $79, as of today the membership fee is $99.  I know you’re getting antsy now that you’ve got that $99 number in your head but calm your jets.  Among other things the membership comes with free two-day shipping, not everything on the site includes the two-day shipping but a ton of stuff does.  The membership will pay for itself, how fast it pays for itself depends on how much and what you purchase.  For example, mine paid for itself in less than two weeks of purchasing the membership.  I signed up for the prime membership to Amazon right before the holidays because I hate shopping in stores anytime during the holidays.  I did ALL my Christmas shopping that year and every year since online.  Now I do all my gift shopping period online.   I recently purchased a bed and a memory foam mattress from Amazon and if I would have had to pay for the shipping it would have cost me around $200 or more, but it was free, not only that but it showed up at my house in 2 days….pretty friggen sweet if you ask me.

So here is what you do:

Sign up for the prime membership with Amazon.com

When you search for something make sure the first thing you filter for is

Refine by

Prime Eligible

That was the results you see are only the things that are eligible for the free two-day shipping.

EBay…This one takes slightly more effort to sign up and search for but it’s worth it so do it.  Not only can you buy things but if you’re so inclined you can sell things as well.  Honestly I could do a whole tutorial on the most efficient use of EBay but for the sake of time I’ll give you run down in its simplest of forms.

Sign up, make sure the info you use is correct and what you use is what you can live with for the life of your account, like your user name for example.  You’re going to need to set up a PayPal account and link it to your bank account, yes, do that.   Yes, it’s safe.  Actually it’s pretty much the safest way to pay for anything online.

Once your all set up and ready to search here are some tips to keep you on the right track.

When searching for something make sure you filter for department, style, size ect…

Then click “see all” and go through to filter things like size, wash…

Make sure you filter for free shipping, you can find that when you click the “see all” option, it will be under delivery options.

If you’re not willing to wait for your purchase filter for items that are only in the US, however I recommend you don’t do this.  It’s a sad fact that anything made and purchased overseas is going to be way, way cheaper.

Yes you may have to wait for it longer than a normal package in the mail, but if you do it right it will be worth it.

Keep to those basics and you could really save to big money and still have what you want, like huge speakers for your car and front row seats at a concert, priorities.
