One game into the new NFL season and you already feel like your team will miss the playoffs?  That's a sign of a tortured fan, and here are the results of a new study on the most sports tortured cities in America.

11 Points has the result of a new study that figured out the most tortured sports cities in the country.  They looked at the 41 American cities with at least one pro baseball, football, basketball, or hockey team.

It's based on five factors:  Total championships per capita, years since the last title, or if the city has never won one, years since their oldest franchise formed, championships since 2000, losses in title games, and teams that have left town.

The most tortured sports city in the country is, San Diego.  They've never won a championship in the 45 years the Padres have been in existence, or the 44 years of the Chargers.  Plus they have had two NBA franchises leave town, the Rockets and the Clippers.

Here is the complete top 12 most tortured cities:

  1. San Diego
  2. Cleveland
  3. Washington D.C.
  4. Atlanta
  5. Kansas City
  6. Buffalo
  7. Minneapolis
  8. Milwaukee
  9. Houston
  10. Cincinnati
  11. Charlotte
  12. Salt Lake City
