Super Bowl Honor Roll: Permian Basin High Schools Who Were Awarded Gold Footballs From the NFL

Yesterday I did a story on Midland Lee High School getting golden footballs from the NFL for each alumni that played in a Super Bowl. Well here is the list of all schools in the Basin that got those golden footballs.

The NFL High School Honor Roll includes the following towns and high schools in the Permian Basin area:

  • Alpine

    Alpine High School
    • Bake Turner - NY Jets - Super Bowl III

  • Big Spring

    Big Spring High School
    • Charlie West - Minnesota Vikings - Super Bowl IV, VIII
    • Dan Birdwell - Oakland Raiders - Super Bowl II
    • Ken Coffey - Washington Redskins - Super Bowl XVIII

  • Colorado City

    Colorado City High School
    • Don Maynard - NY Jets - Super Bowl III

  • Midland

    Robert E. Lee High School
    • Keith Bishop - Denver Broncos - Super Bowl XXI, XXII, XXIV
    • Ryan Tucker - St. Louis Rams - Super Bowl XXXIV, XXXVI
    • Cedric Benson - Chicago Bears - Super Bowl XLI

  • Odessa

    Odessa High School
    • Marcus Cannon - New England Patriots - Super Bowl XLVI, XLIX

  • Odessa

    Ector High School
    • Ed Williams - New England Patriots - Super Bowl XX

In all Texas had 223 high schools honored with 326 footballs. California had the most schools and gold footballs at 296 and 432 respectively, Texas was second, with Florida, Pennsylvania, and Ohio rounding out the top five.
