In this edition of Stupid Criminals, we find a man who tried to have bad sex to make a woman stop stalking him.

According to the Denver Westword, 39-year-old Paul Patton is a detective in Colorado Springs, and he recently got in big trouble when he had sex with a kidnapping victim while he was handling her case.

After he got busted last month, he gave an absolutely amazing excuse to his bosses.

He said she was stalking him and he figured the best way to get her to stop was to have bad sex with her.

He might have gotten away with it, but the woman had a bunch of sexual text messages from him that made it very clear he wasn't just an innocent stalking victim.

He has been charged with official misconduct and false reporting.  Right now he's suspended with pay during an investigation.

On the bright side, he did arrest the two men who kidnapped the woman.
