Is Stevie Young Playing on New AC/DC Album?

Columbia Records

With Malcolm Young taking leave from the band due to illness, it looks like AC/DC didn’t have to look far for a replacement guitarist to work on their new album. Back in 1988, Stevie Young filled in on guitar for his uncle Malcolm during ‘s ‘Blow Up Your Video’ tour. Now, 25 plus years later, there is a report that he’s filling in for his uncle again.

As Ultimate Classic Rock reports, a picture was posted to Twitter that apparently showed Stevie with the band in Vancouver, Canada. Band members are currently in Vancouver preparing to record their 16th studio album with producer Brendan O’Brien.

Was the photo actually Stevie Young? If so, is he there to play on the album or for another reason? All of that is unknown at this point. What we do know is Malcolm Young won’t be part of the record. The band recently issuing the following statement:

“After forty years of life dedicated to AC/DC, guitarist and founding member Malcolm Young is taking a break from the band due to ill health. Malcolm would like to thank the group’s diehard legions of fans worldwide for their never-ending love and support. In light of this news, AC/DC asks that Malcolm and his family’s privacy be respected during this time. The band will continue to make music.”

In the ’80s Stevie Young was in a band called the Starfighters, and has been in other groups over the years. Most recently he has been playing in a blues trio called Blue Murda.
