Sound Barrier

In honor of Felix Baumgartner who broke the sound barrier in space earlier this morning, we honor the first person to do it, Major Chuck Yeager became the first to break the sound barrier a day earlier on October 14, 1947. Yeager flew the experimental Bell XS-1 at a speed of more than 960 miles per hour. Baumgartner became the first man to break the sound barrier unaided by a vehicle.
