Sepultura are ready to strap on the instruments once more to record their 13th studio album. Guitarist Andreas Kisser has unveiled a few more details about the upcoming release in his recent journal posting, plus he hit on a few other key things going on in the band’s life.

Speaking about the new album, Kisser explained, “In June we will be in Los Angeles recording the new stuff with Ross Robinson and Steve Evetts for an October release. Can’t wait to do this one, is going to be our strongest work ever. We have 13 songs ready to go plus two covers, one from Death and another one from the Brazilian group Chico Science e Nação Zumbi.”

Those comments follow a recent interview Rock Overdose did with frontman Derrick Green in which he stated, “The album is sounding really sinister, dark, and metal as hell! It’s been great working with (drummer) Eloy (Casagrande) in the writing process because it brings a whole different energy to the music. The many changes that have been going on in our lives and in the world also add to the making of the new album.”

Kisser also revealed that drummer Eloy Casagrande recently had an accident while playing drums during a show in France. The stickman smashed his finger on the snare, leaving him bloodied. The drummer managed to finish the performance, but was later given stitches and ordered to rest for a few days. In the interim, the band tried out their drum tech Dede before eventually deciding on a local drummer named Kevin Foley who subbed for the band until Casagrande was able to return.

The guitarist also spoke of his shock over hearing about the death of Slayer‘s Jeff Hanneman. “I didn’t expect that at all,” stated Kisser. “My impression was that he was getting better and soon we will be able to see him killing with Slayer again. It was so sad. The Sepultura family will miss him deeply. Without Slayer, Sepultura would never be possible. Thanks for all the inspiration and the great music, Jeff. RIP.”
