It has been a big week for the British duo Royal Blood. They made their U.S. television debut and one of their concerts was attended by rock royalty. The TV appearance was Friday night (May 16) on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live.’ Watch the video above of their performance of ‘Out of the Black.’
A few nights before that, their sold out New York City concert was attended by guitar legend Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin (photo below). He saw Royal Blood perform on the British TV show Later With Jools Holland and became an instant fan.
‘Out of the Black,’ the debut EP from the duo comprised of vocalist/bassist Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher, was released in March. The title track is currently in the top 10 and climbing on the mainstream rock chart, and Royal Blood are working on a full-length album, which is set to be released by the end of the year.
In a recent interview with ‘Loudwire Nights’ host Full Metal Jackie, Kerr talked about Royal Blood’s musical influences.
“I think Jeff Buckley is a big influence for me, especially sort of vocally,” Kerr says.” I’d say bands like Foo Fighters and I’d also say a band perhaps like the Raconteurs as well and the Dead Weather. I definitely feel influences by those other Jack White projects more so than the White Stripes. I think we just get White Stripes quicker because there’s the two of us. I mean, obviously Dave Grohl is any rock musician’s kind of role model, I think. Especially with the bass, drums and vocal, I’m a huge fan of Dave Grohl on the drums. You can’t help love him if you love rock music.”
Royal Blood will spend the summer playing European festivals and a few Australian shows before returning to the U.S. in August for Lollapalooza. They are also set to support the Pixies on a fall tour. For all the band’s concert dates, go here.
