Queens of the Stone Age Already Plotting the Follow-Up to ‘…Like Clockwork’

Queens of the Stone Age released ‘Era Vulgaris’ in 2007, then took several years before releasing last year’s highly acclaimed ‘… Like Clockwork’ album. Granted, there was a full touring cycle and a major side project (Them Crooked Vultures) in between, but Josh Homme is intent on there being a quicker turnaround for the band’s next disc.

The frontman tells Rolling Stone that he’s looking to capitalize on the band’s current momentum and wants to make another album soon. “We have more than enough songs,” says Homme. “We’re booked ’til September, but after that we plan to jump in the studio and get going.”

Queens of the Stone Age still have a full tour schedule on the horizon that includes North American, Australian and European dates, but the singer says he’s really anxious to spend time in the studio again. He explained, “When it’s time to make music, that’s about getting lost for me. To be a control freak is not half as good as being a freak who’s casually in control. You’re feeling around in the dark for something that feels good. As long as you’re not in an orgy, that can be an amazing moment.”

The band’s momentum only figures to increase as award season hits. Already a favorite on critic’s list, ‘… Like Clockwork’ helped the band to three Grammy nominations. The group is up for Best Rock Album, Best Rock Performance (‘My God Is the Sun’) and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical and they’ll find out their fate when the Grammy awards are dished out Sunday, Jan. 26 in Los Angeles.
