Nothing More Play ‘Would You Rather?’

It has been one hell of a year for rock outfit Nothing More, who have been touring in promotion of their self-titled album and are getting ready for a massive upcoming trek with none other than Five Finger Death Punch, Volbeat and Hellyeah. During a recent interview, we decided to play a little game of ‘Would You Rather?’ with frontman Jonny Hawkins, bassist Daniel Oliver and guitarist Mark Vollelunga (who jumps in at the end). Would you rather be really late for a show or mess up onstage?

Jonny Hawkins: I’d rather mess up onstage because I’ve gotten really good at playing it off since I do mess up a lot. I think being late would be so much more stressful because we require so much setup time but messing up royally -- been there, done that.

Daniel Oliver: Yeah, I would agree. If you’re late, people are waiting on you, it’s an a—hole move. We’ve all had some pretty epic falls and all kinds of weird things happen to us onstage.

Would you rather be in the studio or on tour?

JH: I personally rather be in the studio just because I do a lot of the recording process. It’s more stressful for me than being on the road but it’s also more exciting to me. You have your own bed at least and you get to be with your loved ones and you’re creating something new. The live shows are awesome in all the other ways that the studio isn’t.

DO: Aside from being home, I’d rather be on the road. Mainly because I’m really bad with details so the studio drives me crazy -- eight hours and we’re still on this one little thing.

Would you rather have a massive bank account or a massive fan base?

JH: I’d rather have a massive bank account because I could always make a massive fan base with it. [Laughs] If you use it right, if you invest your money right, then the massive bank account is an opportunity. Having a massive fan base is, as well. I don’t know!

DO: I’d rather be a poor well revered artist than a rich man, for sure. Now, a poor and not popular artist  -- that would suck. [Laughs]

Would you rather tour with a band you didn’t respect or tour with a band that didn’t respect you?

DO: I’d rather tour with a band I didn’t respect, probably because I'd have the upper hand it feels like, probably.

JH: Selfish but true, not selfish but honest. I would say the same thing because a band that doesn’t respect you, you can’t really do anything about that. If you don’t respect another band then you can control how you act.

Would you rather have lunch with a music icon who has passed or a future music icon no one really knows about yet? (If music icon in the past, Who would it be and why?)

JH: Music icon, oh man, I think John Lennon. No, I’m changing my answer to Bob Marley -- that would be way cooler and plus we’d get to smoke out while having a conversation.

If you weren’t in a band, would you rather be a tour manager or a roadie? Why, and for which band?

DO: A tour manager, definitely not for Motley Crue. [Laughs] I don’t know, it might actually be really fun. Who knows? It seems like it would be a lot of work though.

JH: A tour manager, I don’t know if Muse has pyro but I’d like to tour manage a band like Muse because it’s a very progressive live show and so much cool technology.

Mark Vollelunga: I’d totally want to tour manage someone like Justin Timberlake, so much production and the quality of the show. Also, you wouldn’t just be around sweaty dudes all the time.

Would you rather live in a world where people break into song or people break into mosh pits?

DO: Song for sure.

JH: Song, I just feel like I would have coffee in my hand and then everybody starts moshing and coffee spills everywhere.

DO: It wouldn’t be cool if you had to go to the bathroom and all of a sudden a mosh starts.

Would you rather be an '80s rock band in present day or would you rather be Nothing More in the '80s? Why.

MV: So Steel Panther or…

DO: I definitely would want to be us in the '80s.

JH: Yeah, we’d probably do a lot of drugs too, before anybody learned. Now we’ve gotten smarter.
