The NFL is having its annual meetings in Phoenix this week and among the many topics brought up were changes to the extra point rules.

According to NFL.com, it looks like there are changes that will be implemented for the new season, and some of the variations of the rules are as follows:

  • Teams have the option of going for two points from the 1-yard line, or going for one point from the 15.
  • Eliminate the extra point altogether and place the ball at the 2-yard line making it a two point play.
  • Narrowing the goal posts.
  • A college-type rule where the defense can score a touchdown on a blocked kick, interception, or fumble return on a two-point conversion.

Those options will be discussed sometime in the next 30 days but it looks like it will not be discussed further in the meetings going on in Phoenix this week.
