The weekend approaches people! Time to see what’s at the movies. My personal favorite happens to be scary movies but normally I don’t see many in the summer, however with “A Quite Place” coming out right after school let out I thought ok surely that was a one-time bonus. Lucky for me (and anyone else that likes scary movies) summer 2018 has a good mix of genres.

Here’s a quick look at what’s coming out this Friday and short synopsis for each. See you at the movies!

FRIDAY JUNE 8th
Hereditary
Starring: Toni Collette, Alex Wolff, Milly Shapiro, Ann Dowd
Apparently this was a hit at Sundance where it premiered so it moved on to big screens where you don’t have to be a snooty, eclectic movie fan to see it. It’s basically about a woman who thinks her deceased mom is terrorizing her daughter from beyond the grave.

Ocean’s 8
Starring: Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Bonham Carter
Obviously a spinoff of the Steven Soderbergh trilogy, Sandra Bullock plays Debbie Ocean who rounds herself up an all-female team for a heist at the Met Gala in New York City.

Won’t You Be My Neighbor?
Starring: Fred Rogers, Francois Clemmons, Yo-Yo Ma, Joe Negri
An insightful documentary look at the life of Fred Rogers (Mister Rogers), the man who wore that iconic sweater as he sat on a bench in his house, tied his shoes and basically loved and educated all who watched. I have a personal love for this man and the show that I watched as a child that showed me what normality might look like. This man showed me that there were people in the world that were kind and considerate and caring, people that were normal, people that were productive parts of society….people that didn’t drink or curs or steal or yell. I loved Mister Rogers Neighborhood and I really can’t wait to see this documentary.

Hotel Artemis
Starring: Jodie Foster, Sterling K. Brown, Sofia Boutella, Jeff Goldblum
I’ve read that this is a “dystopian” action film…which I’ve googled for your convenience since I figure if I didn’t know what it meant, you might not either….dystopian means relating to or denoting an imagined place or state in which everything is unpleasant or bad, typically a totalitarian or environmentally degraded one. So a super fucked up universe where everything blows. In this super fucked up universe the movie revolves around a woman who runs a secret hospital for criminals. It’s an action movie and I’ve found you can never go wrong with an action movie.

Normally just because you see that a movie is coming out on the internet doesn’t mean that it’s going to be in your town but as far as I can tell all four of the movies coming out this Friday will be available somewhere here in Midland or Odessa so enjoy and let us know what you thought about the movie you watched this weekend!
