L'Wren Scott, a model and fashion designer who had been Mick Jagger's girlfriend since 2001, has died of an apparent suicide. She was 49.

Complete details have yet to come out, but the New York Post reports that she was found at 10:00AM hanging by a scarf in an apartment in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood. The Post says that it is unknown if there was a note.

According to her website, Scott began her career as a model, but soon moved away from the glare of the camera to making others look good in front of it. She became a top stylist in Hollywood, working first with photographers and then with celebrities like Madonna and Julia Roberts.

In 2006, she launched her own brand, which was expanded to include shoes, fragrances, make-up and eyewear. She most recently teamed up with Banana Republic on for a holiday collection of clothing and accessories for women. Last month, she canceled her show during London's Fashion Week due to production delays.

ITV says that he is reported to be "completely shocked and devastated" at the news of his girlfriend's death. Jagger is currently on tour with the Rolling Stones in Australia.
