Metallica frontman James Hetfield has a number of hobbies and pastimes, one of which is hunting. Hetfield has experience in bear hunting, which is the subject of the upcoming History series 'The Hunt,' and he'll be the narrator for the eight episode series that premieres Sunday, June 8 at 10PM ET.

According to a press release, the series chronicles the hunt on Alaska's Kodiak Island for the Kodiak brown bear, which is among the largest land predators on Earth. They can grow to be 12 feet tall and 1,500 pounds with powerful jaws and razor sharp claws. The average hunt lasts 10 days, and there's less than a 50 percent success rate in bagging a bear.

Less than 500 tags are issued annually, and in the high tech world we live in today, most of the Kodiak brown bear hunters are old school, using bow-and-arrow or black powder single-shot rifles.

When he's not narrating TV shows, Hetfield has been known to sing and play guitar. He did that last week at the 'Acoustic 4 A Cure' benefit in San Francisco. He played some songs solo and also teamed up with Green Day‘s Billie Joe Armstrong and Chickenfoot‘s Joe Satriani for a medley of ‘Turn the Page’ and Green Day’s ‘Boulevard of Broken Dreams.’

He was also part of the grand finale of Bob Dylan‘s ‘Rainy Day Women #12 & 35.’ Hetfield joined Sammy Hagar, Armstrong, Satriani, Heart‘s Nancy Wilson and Train’s Pat Monahan in the all-star jam session.

Meanwhile, the San Francisco Giants' second annual 'Metallica Night' took place Friday night and featured Hetfield and Kirk Hammett rocking the national anthem. Check out video footage here.
