Who/what is Morgan was the first question I had after seeing the first teaser for the Ridley Scott-produced movie. Now we have some answers.

Morgan follows the titular creature who was bio-engineered as the “next step in evolution,” as Toby Jones’ scientist explains in the new trailer. We finally get to meet this Morgan, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, who looks like a quiet, if a little distressed teenager, but who also throws Paul Giamatti across the room with one place. Kate Mara‘s character, a “corporate troubleshooter,” arrives at the lab Morgan is locked inside to investigate, but things soon turn violent. There’s blood on the glass windows, alarms go off, and a terrified Jennifer Jason Leigh is missing an eyeball, seemingly the results of interacting with Morgan. Whatever exactly Morgan is, you don’t want to piss her, or “it,” off. Here’s the full and very vague, synopsis:

A corporate troubleshooter (Kate Mara) is sent to a remote, top-secret location, where she is to investigate and evaluate a terrifying accident. She learns the event was triggered by a seemingly innocent “human,” who presents a mystery of both infinite promise and incalculable danger.

Directed by Scott’s son Luke Scott with a screenplay by Seth Owen, Morgan looks like a great thriller to get your pulse racing. The rest of the cast also includes Michelle Yeoh, Boyd Holbrook, and Leslie Rose (Game of Thrones). I’m most excited to see more from Taylor-Joy, who was fantastic in this year’s The Witch and is an emerging actress you’ll surely be hearing more about.
