Leading up to the second anniversary of late Alice in Chains bassist Mike Starr‘s death, friends and family in the Seattle area are banding together to stage a memorial show to celebrate his life and legacy.

Starr’s sister Melinda, along with several fans and friends, spearheaded the effort to put together a show where everyone can celebrate the bassist’s work through never-before-seen pictures, memorabilia and music performances. The event will take place at Seattle’s Studio Seven this Thursday night (March 7).

The bill for the evening features Blacklist Union with Tony West, the Alice in Chains tribute band Grind, Sin Circus, Amanda J. Hardy, Garden of Eden and Steal Beans, plus a number of surprise guests.

Starr was a founding member of Alice in Chains, appearing on their ‘Facelift’ and ‘Dirt’ albums, as well as the ‘Sap’ EP. He eventually split from Alice in Chains in 1993. His substance abuse problems were documented on TV’s ‘Celebrity Rehab’ and ‘Sober House.’ In 2011, Starr had begun playing with Travis Meeks of Days of the New and had begun prepping for a tour. However, he passed away on March 8 before the touring began.

In addition, Starr’s Facebook page will be giving away some limited edition stickers and first and second anniversary guitar picks to mark the occasion as a way of keeping Mike Starr’s memory alive. Tributes and memories of Starr can be left on a pair of Facebook sites, here and here.

Ticketing information for the show can be found here.
