Kurt Cobain’s Childhood Home Up for Sale

The mother of late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain has put the singer’s childhood home on the auction block. Wendy O’Connor is selling the 1.5-story Aberdeen bungalow that resides two hours southwest of Seattle.

However, if you want to purchase the residence, you’ll need to bring a healthy offer. The home, which was last assessed at less than $67,000, is currently on the market for $500,000, which is no doubt priced that high given its historical significance.

To help sell the home, the Associated Press reports that O’Connor has used photos showing bits of Cobain’s youth in the home. One shot features a young Cobain posing with a chocolate-frosted birthday cake, while another features a teenage Cobain smiling with his guitar in hand in a cluttered room. The singer’s room also features a number of stencil-like band names for acts he was inspired by like Led Zeppelin and Iron Maiden.

Cobain’s sister Kim stated, “We’ve decided to sell the home to create a legacy for Kurt, and yes, there are some mixed feelings since we have all loved the home and it carries so many great memories. But our family has moved on from Washington, and feel it’s time to let go of the home.” The family also stated they are open to selling the home to be used as a museum honoring the late singer.

The singer lived in the home during his youth, but his parents eventually split. The frontman reportedly lived in a number of different homes and this is not the first abode to be sold based on its connection to Cobain. To see a photo of the home, click here.
