It’s been an interesting couple of weeks for actors and their beards. Last week, Hugh Jackman shaved off his famous Wolverine facial hair for the very last time (sniffle), and now that filming on Star Wars: Episode VIII is complete, Mark Hamill is saying goodbye to his Luke Skywalker beard — but don’t worry, he’ll probably be back (beard and all) for Episode IX.

Over on Twitter, Hamill shared a cute video in which he has his face shaved clean for the first time since May 2015. You’ll notice an interesting note in the caption below the video that teases Hamill’s return for Episode IX:

So (spoilers?) it’s probably safe to assume that Luke Skywalker isn’t going to die in Episode VIII. We last (and first) saw ol’ Luke at the end of The Force Awakens, when Daisy Ridley’s Rey located the island where he’d been living in self-imposed exile. According to reports, the sequel picks up right where J.J. Abrams’ film left off, so we’ll get to see what happened after Rey found the legendary Jedi — maybe he invited her in for a cup of tea? That’d be pleasant.

Rian Johnson recently completed principal production on Episode VIII, which also features the return of John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, Carrie Fisher, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson and Andy Serkis. Joining them are Star Wars newcomers Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern. Episode VIII hits theaters on December 15, 2017.

Colin Trevorrow will direct Episode IX, which arrives in 2019.
