FX’s ‘The Strain’: Guillermo del Toro Pilot Adds Another Series Regular, Still No Pickup
FX’s upcoming pilot ‘The Strain‘ — which comes from from visual master Guillermo del Toro‘s 2009 horror novel series — is expected to receive a full season pickup, thus has continued adding to its diverse cast. Joining the established regulars is relative newcomer Miguel Gomez, best known to American audiences for a role in the most recent season of ‘Louie,’ but who will Gomez play?
According to Deadline, Gomez will take the role of Augustin “Gus” Elizalde, a gangbanger fresh out of juvenile hall with redeeming love for his mother, who becomes one of humanity’s most effective warriors in the struggle against the vampire virus-ridden populace.
‘The Strain’ follows Dr. Ephraim “Eph” Goodweather (‘House of Cards‘ star Corey Stoll), a CDC operative who investigates a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers wage war for the fate of humanity itself. Also present among the cast are Mia (‘Alias’) Maestro, Kevin (‘LOST‘) Durand, as well as Jonathan (‘The Mummy’) Hyde and Richard (‘Inglorious Basterds’) Sammel.
Former ‘LOST’ and current ‘Bates Motel‘ showrunner Carlton Cuse will helm FX’s adaptation, from a screenplay by del Toro and novel co-writer Michael Hogan. Hogan and Gary Ungar will also serve as executive producers. Ambient buzz suggests the project will almost definitely go to series, despite its current pilot order.
