As we have previously reported Anthrax is hard at work on the follow-up to their 2011 album ‘Worship Music.’ Bassist Frank Bello recently gave an update on the thrash band’s new music calling it “a bit heavier” and saying it has “energy.”

Bello recently sat down for an interview with Jam Magazine. He discusses his other band with Megadeth’s David Ellefson -- Altitudes & Attitude -- as well as shining a light on Anthrax’s new music. Watch the interview in the player above.

The bassist described the follow up to Anthrax’s 2011 album ‘Worship Music,’ with one word, “energy.” Then he added, “Look, the best thing I can do with this thing is not overhype it, and just have that quiet confidence, but I'm so stoked about it.”

Bello continued, “The three of us [drummer Charlie Benante and guitarist Scott Ian] got in the studio last week, and it was, like, old-time jamming. It just built this momentum.” He also described the new music as being "a bit heavier, but it's still got what you like out of Anthrax.”

He also shared that the band is not slowing down. "Thirty-one years in, you'd think we'd be winding down, but I can tell, in reality, there's a fire in the belly,” Bello said. “It's something we have to do, and there's no reason to stop. We're just having fun doing it."

Anthrax are currently holed up in a Los Angeles studio with producer Jay Ruston, who also helmed the group’s ‘Worship Music’ effort. The band is expected to release the album via Megaforce Records later this year.

Last September, Anthrax released a live concert DVD ‘Chile On Hell.’ Guitarist Scott Ian called the gig “Overwhelming.” You can read more about it here.
