Though there is always a great amount of anticipation for a new Foo Fighters album, there’s a little bit extra this time around as the band has tied an HBO documentary series to their upcoming release.
And what a project it is, as Dave Grohl and his band trekked to some of America’s hot spots for music to lay down songs for their new album. In the brand new trailer for the series that can be seen above, Grohl states, “I really believe the environment in which you write or record an album influences the musical result.”
The rocker goes on to add that the initial idea was to record in some classic studios, but evolved into a deeper exploration of America’s music scenes. “This is a musical map of America,” states Grohl at one point, later adding, “It’s a chronicling of our journey to unravel our musical identity.”
The trailer also gives viewers a brief look inside some of the recording for the band’s new album. You can see and hear the members of Foo Fighters laying down some new music in the studio.
The series also appears to have a wide reach as well, as Foo Fighters didn’t just limit their scope to major rock scenes. The trailer shows that Grohl spoke with artists from all genres, with LL Cool J, Bonnie Raitt, Slash, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Pharrell Williams, Joan Jett, Cheap Trick‘s Rick Nielsen, KISS‘ Paul Stanley, Joe Walsh, The Black Keys‘ Dan Auerbach, ZZ Top‘s Billy F. Gibbons, Macklemore, Buddy Guy, Trombone Shorty and plenty of others. There’s even a chat with President Obama that turns up in the trailer.
Look for Foo Fighters’ ‘Sonic Highways’ series debuting on HBO Friday, Oct. 17 at 11PM ET / 10 PM CT. Meanwhile, ‘Sonic Highways: The Album‘ will be released on Nov. 10 worldwide.
