It was over a year in the making, but Foo Fighters took the stage in Cesena, Italy, last night (Nov. 3) to the delight of the Italian audience and the power of music really shown through during this special performance.

As you may remember, 1,000 Italian musicians brought together by Fabio Zaffagnini created a cover of Foo Fighters' "Learn to Fly" in an effort to gain the band's attention to perform in Cesena, Italy, a town that does not typically get a lot of major rock shows. The video went viral and the band was so moved that they eventually added the city to their European trek.

"I know that you know that we're here for a very, very special reason. It's crazy. So, let me tell you this has never happened before. This is like a revolution," said Dave Grohl to the crowd in the fan-shot video seen below. "Who's in the Rockin' 1000? Crazy motherf--kers! First of all, we have to say thank you to all of the musicians who are here tonight … You know the whole world saw what you did, right? Millions and millions of people saw what you did. It's a beautiful thing. Congratulations everybody."

The singer went on to recall, "I was on vacation and my phone was like 'bling, bling, bling, bling' and they were all like, 'Have you seen this?' After 100 texts, I looked at YouTube and was like, 'What the f---?' Then I f--king cried cause it was crazy."

He added, "When we do our music, we do it in our basement or in our studio. It's very simple. We do the songs, we make a record but we don't really think about the rest of the world and to see you people singing the song for the whole f---kin world is the greatest feeling."

Grohl urged the Rockin' 1000 to replicate the stunt for other bands like U2, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Rage Against the Machine. The vocalist also revealed that this is the final leg of their touring, so they wanted to make sure that this show got scheduled.

During the performance, the band rolled through many of their top hits, rolled out some deeper tracks and performed a few cover songs. During their performance of the Queen / David Bowie classic "Under Pressure," Grohl invited Fabio Zaffagnini to the stage and he crowd surfed up to meet the band. Not long behind him was the "mohawk guy" from the video, who also surfed up to the stage and then offered to play drums on the song, allowing Taylor Hawkins to come to the front of the stage to sing. See the fan-shot video of the performance above.

Foo Fighters are in the midst of their European trek that will finish out the year. The group recently launched a countdown clock at their website that winds down Nov. 22. Stay tuned for the announcement.
