‘Dumb and Dumber 2′ Saved by Universal
Warner Bros. made a pretty dumb (or was it smart?) move to dump the Farrelly Brothers’ ‘Dumb and Dumber To,’ but Universal has swept in to rescue the sequel from production limbo.
Writing and directing duo Bobby and Peter Farrelly took to Twitter today to announce that Universal and Red Granite Pictures (the latter of which is behind Martin Scorsese‘s ‘The Wolf of Wall Street‘) have stepped up to the plate to rescue the ‘Dumb and Dumber’ sequel. Last week, Warner Bros. ditched their support of the film, which is said to cost a relatively inexpensive $30 million. The Farrelly Brothers decided to shop the sequel around, and it didn’t take long for another studio to swoop in.
The first ‘Dumb and Dumber’ film was a major success at the box office — the gross-out, idiotic comedy starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels followed the duo as they went on a disastrous road trip to Aspen to return a lost suitcase full of cash to a beautiful woman, who turned out to be involved in some criminal activity. Shenanigans ensued, etc. The sequel, which features both Daniels and Carrey reprising their roles of Harry and Lloyd, respectively, finds the pair tracking down Harry’s illegitimate daughter for help with a kidney transplant.
