There’s a lot of anticipation for the new Down EP, ‘Down IV, Part II,’ which drops later this month, and the band’s fans in Asheville, North Carolina got a little better idea of what’s to come during the band’s Saturday (May 3) performance.
Frontman Philip Anselmo introduced the new track ‘Conjure,’ telling the crowd, “This next song would make Black Sabbath cry,” before pausing to humorously add, “I think.” Anselmo then addressed the crowd, stating that it was their trial run of performing the track live for those who had their camera phones ready.
True to Anselmo’s word, the song was definitely a heavy rocker, trudging along step by step until picking up the pace about midway through. But eventually the song returned to its heavy, plodding and wicked licks to the delight of the crowd, who gave Down a huge ovation after the song concluded.
The fan-filmed footage is somewhat obscured by audience members from time-to-time, but the sound is solid enough to get a vibe of what the track sounds like without being too distorted. If you want to hear what the studio version of ‘Conjure’ sounds like, be sure to pick up the ‘Down IV, Part II’ EP, arriving in stores on May 13. It’s also available for pre-order at iTunes and Amazon. For the remaining dates that Down are performing as part of the Revolver Golden Gods tour, check here.
