The California Medical Board has punished a Sacramento surgeon for telling a nervous patient that performing oral sex on her husband would prepare her for an upcoming gastrointestinal procedure.

Gastrointestinal procedures, like endoscopy, can only be done by snaking a camera down a patient's throat.  So with that in mind, KCBS-TV reports the woman told the medical board that Dr. J. Peter Zegarra explained to her, while her husband was present, that she "should be practicing twice a week" on her husband because the oral sex would "address her gagging reflex."

Cassandra Hockenson with the California Medical Board said Dr. Zegarra's comment, "constituted unprofessional conduct," and should have been a more clinical suggestion for making the device used in the procedure easier to swallow.
