Dave Grohl, Jack Black + Val Kilmer Play Haunting Rock Band in ‘Ghost Ghirls’ Web Series
Halloween may be over, but there’s always time to appreciate a good ghost story. In this case, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, Tenacious D singer Jack Black and actor Val Kilmer play the members of Sweetriver and the Huckleberry Dogs, an ill-fated band who died in a tragic plane crash. The trio portray their Southern rock characters in the 11th episode of ‘Ghost Ghirls,’ a web series starring Amanda Lund and Maria Blasucci.
In ‘Children’s Hospital’ fashion, ‘Ghost Ghirls’ has a run time of half a normal TV show, but packs in plenty of laughs throughout each episode. In the show’s 11th episode, which is only Part One of their Sweetriver and the Huckleberry Dogs story, Grohl, Black and Kilmer haunt a recording studio. The dysfunctional band recruited a cult fan base, but were unable to finish their final song, which was certain to blast them into stardom.
Jack Black and Val Kilmer’s characters are constantly fighting, distracting the group from playing anything that even resembles music. Dave Grohl’s character, who plays the drums, is the band’s resident pushover. Despite Grohl’s yelping cries for peace, his bandmates are unable to put their differences aside to write Sweetriver and the Huckleberry Dogs’ final song, which is the band’s ghostly”unfinished business.” Tenacious D member Kyle Gass also appears in the ‘Ghost Ghirls’ episode as the doofus founder of the Sweetriver Fan Club, Northern Ojai Chapter.
The band has, in real life, recorded two songs for the ‘Ghost Ghirls’ Original Soundtrack EP, penning the cuts ‘Georgia Peach’ and ‘Back to the Beginning.’
Check out Episode 11 of ‘Ghost Ghirls’ and stay tuned for Part 2 of the hauntingly funny ‘Sweetriver’ story.
