If you put a lot of thought and effort into that written manifesto of who you are on a dating profile, you've probably wasted your time.  According to a study in the Journal of communication, a picture is worth a thousand words.  Make sure your profile picture says something about who you are though.  That will stand out much more than anythingyou have to say in writing.  Volunteers who were quizzed on profile recall remembered something the SAW much more than what they read.  It's also a good idea to change that picture from time to time.  It shows you're current and changing with the season so to speak.  If you like to cook, post a great shot of you cooking.  If you're into music or the arts or the great outdoors, make sure to include those in your profile picture backdrop.
